DoorDash is experimenting with a feature to encourage customers to tip their drivers prior to receiving their orders.
If a DoorDash customer places an order and chooses not to tip, a notification will suggest adding a tip for quicker acceptance and delivery of their order. Should the customer continue to refrain from tipping, a second reminder will inform them that drivers have the discretion to accept or decline orders, hinting at the possibility of their order being turned down.

The idea of tipping in advance might seem unconventional. After all, diners in the U.S. don't tip waitstaff upon entering a restaurant. Yet, the effort of delivering food to one's home warrants a tip, irrespective of the food's quality. It's logical for drivers to be more inclined to promptly complete a delivery if they are aware of a forthcoming tip. While some might prefer tipping in cash, it's not always certain.
DoorDash has been testing this tip reminder feature with a select group of customers in the U.S. and Canada. The company plans to introduce it more widely once its effectiveness is confirmed. As per an official statement, there's been a notable reduction in orders without tips, though DoorDash hasn't specified by how much.
